Goalkeeper glove cut guide
Find your fit. Know your cut.
A glove’s cut is the way its palm and fingers are shaped and stitched. It affects how closely the glove fits your hand and how it feels when handling the ball.
There is no single best cut. Choose the fit that gives you comfort and confidence, whether you’re starting out or playing every week.
| Cut | How it is made | Typical feel | Choose it if… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Negative cut | Seams sit inside the fingers, usually with panels between them. | Close and snug, with less spare material around the fingers. | You prefer a fitted glove and a direct feel on the ball. |
| Roll finger | Palm latex wraps around the sides of the fingers. | A fuller, rounded feel with latex around the fingers. | You like a traditional glove with generous latex coverage. |
| Flat palm / positive cut | Finger seams sit outside the glove, with panels joining palm and backhand. | Usually more spacious than negative cut. | You prefer room around your fingers and a less close-fitting feel. |
| Hybrid cut | Two or more constructions are combined, sometimes on different fingers or at the fingertips. | Depends on the design: often a fitted feel with selected areas of wrapped latex. | You want a blend of fits. Check the individual model’s construction. |
Which cut should I choose?
- I like a snug fit: start by looking at negative cut.
- I like a fuller feel around my fingers: look at roll finger.
- I prefer more room: look at flat palm.
- I want a combination: explore hybrid designs and read the model description.
These are starting points. Glove material, lining and the model’s shape also affect fit.
Cut is only part of the choice
The cut shapes the fit. The palm latex, its condition and glove care also affect grip and wear. A different cut does not automatically mean better grip or longer life.
Finger protection is a separate feature, rather than a cut. Likewise, a strap or strapless cuff describes the wrist closure. Check the product description for both.
