Non League match descends into chaos

A non league FA Vase tie between Bilston Town and Droylsden was overshadowed by disturbing scenes after the match descended into chaos, prompting an investigation into events both on the pitch and in the stands

However, the football itself was ultimately eclipsed by events that unfolded later. The game descended into chaos with a multi-person brawl breaking out both on the pitch and off it, involving players and individuals in the surrounding areas. Footage of the disorder has since circulated widely on social media, drawing strong reaction from supporters and the wider non-league football community.
The scenes have led to an investigation being launched, with both clubs now aware of the seriousness of the situation and the attention it has attracted.

Bilston Town FC addressed the incident in a statement released later that evening. Bilston Town FC tweeted at half 10 on Saturday night:
“We understand that there is a video or videos shared by people from the game today. We would like to state that this is not a fair reflection of the game or day as a whole.

“As a club we are in the process of investigating all footage from today’s game. We would like to thank the supporters of @Droylsden_FC for their cooperation.”

Amid the online reaction that followed, one Bilston player also responded to criticism aimed at those involved. Bilston player Luke Carter, in reply to online reaction, said:
“He was defending his family. So instead of chatting shite on every post know the facts first.”
